At the University of Michigan, maintaining a strong culture of safety and collaboration is key to producing impactful research and is only possible because of the dedication of U-M’s faculty, staff and students.

To help make maintaining safe research spaces as simple as possible, the Research and Academic Safety Committee invites he U-M research and creative practice communities to submit innovative ways they incorporate safety into their every day work in a way that makes their work simpler and safer.

The best ideas are the ones that fit seamlessly into your day, whether you’re in a lab, studio, workshop or any creative space across campus. Tactics and methods that help streamline the processes that keep everyone in laboratories, studios and shops safe while ensuring the highest standards of research quality and compliance.

Please share your best tips or new and innovative ways you (or your team) make safety simple and part of your everyday routine. From color-coded labels to embedded reminders, we want to hear it all. Together, we can build an even stronger safety culture—one simple idea at a time.

Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.

The Research and Academic Safety Committee invites the U-M Research Community to participate in a safety initiative survey. The U-M community’s feedback helps us continue to strengthen U-M’s culture of research and laboratory safety, ensuring all faculty, staff and trainees work and thrive in a safe environment.
