I learned a lot about public engagement but the workshop you created is a must for any faculty member. It is an orientation on steroids. It certainly motivated me in public engagement but also made my work on campus more meaningful. Thank you very much. Every faculty member needs these sessions and an amazing cohort like this.

Review & Selection

Written applications are first reviewed by an interdisciplinary team of engaged faculty and staff. Finalists are then invited to participate in a group conversation with other finalists and reviewers.

The review committee is looking for applicants that demonstrate the following:

  • A willingness to learn and explore, with an openness to feedback and growth
  • The ability to self-reflect on one’s values, privileges, and belief systems
  • The ability to foster a productive environment for co-learning
  • A clear articulation about how engagement will help them to understand and evolve their scholarly identity, as well as an idea about how they might engage in the future
  • Some prior experience with public engagement, even just by seeing others’ engagement and being inspired

The review committee is also interested in creating a diverse cohort across a number of dimensions, including disciplines, schools/colleges/units, social identities, and interests in public engagement.
