Research Resources

These are some key facilities and programs that provide U-M faculty with unsurpassed opportunities for pursuing their scholarly work.

Center for Statistical Consultation and Research (CSCAR)

A service and research unit of the U-M, administratively located in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), CSCAR staff provide statistical services to faculty, primary researchers, graduate students and staff of the University.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging fMRI

Functional MRI Laboratory supports research on the structures and functions of the brain that underlie cognitive and affective processes, and research on functional MRI and associated research tools.

Libraries & Museums

Ranked as one of the top ten academic research libraries in North America, the University Library system has 19 branches plus nine independent libraries and dozens of departmental libraries and resource centers. It is also a national leader in online resources with, as of March 2011, over 4 million digitized books. U-M has over a dozen museums and galleries including museums of art, natural history (with a planetarium), and archaeology. In addition, the university has an observatory, arboretum, and botanical gardens, all open to the public.

Lurie Nanofabrication Facility

The Lurie Nanofabrication Facility (LNF) is located in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building and operated by the Solid State Electronics Laboratory. The LNF is available, on a fee basis, for use by research groups from government, industry and universities. Equipment and processes are available for research on silicon integrated circuits, MEMS, III-V compound devices, organic devices and nanoimprint technology.

Biomedical Research Core Facilities

The Biomedical Research Core Facilities (BRCF), part of the Medical School Office of Research, is a collection of centralized labs and services offering state-of-the-art instruments and resources to faculty and staff. Many Cores offer their services to other research institutions and the private sector.

Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure

Cyberinfrastucture (CI) is the partnership of humans, massive amounts of data, hardware, and software. Alone, each is powerful. Together, they are transformative. Since 2008, the Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure  has been working to advance CI at U-M, with the goal of empowering research, learning, and societal engagement.
