Dear Research Community,
We are writing to share our near-term plan to mitigate the potential impact of federal stop-work orders on our research enterprise. While such orders have been limited to date, the uncertainty surrounding future funding is creating understandable anxiety for our research faculty, staff, and students.
We recognize that this uncertainty has far-reaching and immediate impact, not just on our research, but on our community’s peace of mind. We are writing to thank you for the resilience you are showing and ask for your continued partnership in advancing the research that is such a hallmark of our university.
In response, we have been developing a new funding program designed to protect the integrity of our university’s research ecosystem affected by current or future stop-work orders. This initiative will allow our research ecosystem to function and, crucially, provide much-needed support for our research community. This effort can only succeed as a true partnership between central administration, academic leaders in schools and colleges, and our research community. We will share details within the next two weeks.
All across academia, our communities are navigating challenging circumstances. With the formulation of this funding program, we have the opportunity to demonstrate our responsiveness and the seriousness of our commitment to our mission.
Sincerely,
Santa J. Ono
