Neil Canfield

As Executive Director for Federal Relations and Federal Research, Canfield works closely with academic leaders, faculty, and staff across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses — informing and advising them on federal legislative, regulatory and research policy developments that affect the U-M research enterprise. His role reflects the importance federal investments play at research universities and as the largest sponsor of U-M research.

Canfield serves as the university’s primary contact with Congress, the executive branch, federal agencies, research organizations, professional societies and public policy organizations. Through these activities, he plays a key role in supporting the university’s mission to serve the nation.
