As the director of digital marketing and communications, Eric Shaw collaborates with teams across all three campuses to promote the impact and importance of research and scholarship at the University of Michigan. He also worked to generate increased awareness around the breadth of tools and resources available to the U-M community so that teams can advance their important research and scholarship.

Shaw oversees digital communication and outreach efforts. He manages Michigan Research, OVPR’s e-newsletter that is sent to approximately 120,000 people each month. As part of his role, Shaw is responsible for visual storytelling efforts focused on sharing the impact and importance of Michigan’s research discoveries. He recently lead the redesign and deployment of the newly revamped Michigan Research website.

Shaw consults with the Michigan Institute for Data Science, the Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery and Engineering, and Consulting for Statistics, Computing and Analytics Research, which are all OVPR units, to amplify communication, public engagement, and event promotion efforts.

He joined the Office of the Vice President for Research in 2019 as a communications specialist. Prior to his work at OVPR, Shaw served as the digital media and web content manager at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

Shaw received training in radio and television production at Specs Howard School of Media Arts before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in communication, with an emphasis in broadcasting at Spring Arbor University. Shaw obtained a master’s degree in strategic communication from Regent University.
