2025 Duncan Steel Thesis Prize

We are excited to invite nominations for the 2025 Duncan Steel Thesis Prize, which recognizes exceptional doctoral research in quantum science and technology. This award celebrates outstanding contributions to the field. The recipient will receive a $1,000 cash prize and an invitation to present their award-winning research at the annual QRI meeting in the summer of 2025.

Eligibility

Open to U-M PhD students and alumni who have completed and submitted their dissertation between January 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025.

Nominations are welcome from all disciplines as long as the research is related to quantum science and technology.

Candidates may be nominated by their thesis advisors, committee members, or through self-nomination. Neither the nominator nor the nominee is required to be affiliated with QRI.

Nomination Requirements

A complete nomination must include:

  • Two letters of recommendation that address the significance of the dissertation to the broadly defined area of quantum science and technology. Each letter is limited to 2 pages. One of the letters must be from the nominee’s thesis advisor. Letters must be sent directly by the recommenders to the prize committee at [email protected].

  • Current CV
