Dear Colleagues,

On Monday, an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo was set to pause many types of federal spending, including research grants and contracts. The memo’s stated purpose was to allow federal agencies to conduct a comprehensive review of programs that may be affected by executive orders. Yesterday, the OMB rescinded the memo. Broader federal efforts to implement the president’s executive orders remain in effect.

In the coming days and weeks, we expect the White House and federal agencies to offer updated guidance on what kinds of activities are impacted.

Our federal relations team is working overtime to keep U-M informed about these changes. We appreciate the information that we are receiving from all corners of our community. To help keep everyone up to date, we ask that principal investigators continue to forward any directives, memoranda, or stop-work orders they receive to their school/department research administrators for action.

To have access to the best information we can provide, please visit the OVPR website for updates on research agency directives and the Public Affairs website for broader information on federal actions. We also welcome your feedback, insight, and questions at [email protected]

Your work is so vital. It serves people and strengthens our community, state, and nation in so many ways. It is an honor to work with you to advance U-M’s vital mission.

Sincerely,

Skip
