Lauren McCormick

assistant professor of Biophysics

Headshot, smiling with long hairDr. Lauren McCormick focuses on unraveling the function, dynamics, and evolution of cytoskeletal polymers called ‘microtubules’ and on discovering how mutations in microtubule proteins cause cytoskeletal defects and human disease. After studying drug efflux proteins as a PhD student at SMU, she switched fields entirely to study human and parasite microtubules during her postdoc at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she was also the first UTSW postdoc to win an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dr. McCormick is deeply committed to mentorship, teaching, and training. She believes that science is for everyone and works to lower the ‘barrier to entry’ through mentorship, training, and outreach.
