FY25 Research By the Numbers
The University of Michigan reported $2.16 billion in research volume during Fiscal Year 2025, a 5.9% increase compared to Fiscal Year 2024.

The university reported a record $1.25 billion in federally sponsored research expenditures across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses during FY25. And institutional investment of U-M research during FY25 totaled $699 million, which supported research-related infrastructure projects, sparked multidisciplinary initiatives and aided in faculty retention efforts.

Research Volume by U-M Unit
The Medical School reported $946 million in research expenditures during FY25, a 6.3 percent increase compared to FY24. The College of Engineering reported nearly $369 million in research expenditures during FY25, while the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts reported almost $244 million in annual research volume.

U-M received 1,672 research awards during FY25, with a total value of $1.12 billion. The university also reported 6,319 research submissions during FY25, with a total value of $6.87 billion.
