The University of Michigan and Los Alamos National Laboratory plan to develop a state-of-the-art facility for high-performance computing and AI research that will enhance and strengthen the university’s research capabilities in science, energy and national security and create new jobs in southeast Michigan.
Maximizing the benefits of clean energy requires new ways to store it, and University of Michigan engineers will partner in a new research hub created by the U.S Department of Energy, designed to develop and further battery innovations.
LUX-ZEPLIN, abbreviated LZ, is a collaboration of 38 institutions, including the University of Michigan. Led by the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, LZ hunts for dark matter from a cavern nearly one mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in South Dakota.
