The federal government remains the largest sponsor of U-M research, and during FY20, agencies supported 54 percent of the university’s research volume. With $887 million in federally sponsored research over the last fiscal year, U-M researchers led projects that span Great Lakes sustainability and racial health disparities to the arts and humanities.
- In FY20, U-M research expenditures under contract with the Department of Defense totaled $77 million. NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION
- In FY20, U-M research expenditures under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration totaled $28 million. NASA partners with researchers across U-M to discover and expand knowledge for the benefit of humanity, while supporting innovation and technology development to advance our space exploration capabilities. NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION
- In FY20, U-M research expenditures under contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration totaled $11 million. NOAA partners with researchers across U-M to understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans and coasts, while also working to conserve and manage coastal and marine ecosystems and resources.
