Associate VP, Research Policy and Compliance
As associate vice president for research, research policy and compliance, Imperiale leads the development and review of research policy, and serves as the key point of contact for research compliance. Imperiale, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, also oversees issues surrounding responsible conduct of research and serves as the institutional Research Integrity Officer. In addition, Imperiale provides operational oversight for the activities under the assistant vice president for research–regulatory and compliance oversight and assistant vice president for research–animal program compliance oversight.
Over the course of his career, his research has focused on virus replication, virus-host cell interactions and science policy. In 1996, Imperiale was promoted to professor in the Medical School’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Imperiale has held a variety of leadership positions across campus, including serving as the director of the Cellular Biotechnology Training Program, Cancer Biology Training Program, Molecular Oncology Program and the Doctoral Program in Cancer Biology. He also served as chair of the U-M Institutional Biosafety Committee.
