Chief of Staff
Jessica Durkin joined the University of Michigan Office of Research (UMOR) in 2018 and became chief of staff in 2019. In this role, she provides counsel to the Vice President for Research, the UMOR Leadership Team and its reporting units.
Durkin works to set priorities and long-range plans, while executing strategies in support of the organizational mission. As a member of the UMOR Leadership Team, Durkin develops strategic relationships with research partners in the schools and colleges, along with U-M executive officers and senior leadership. She represents UMOR across campus, serving as a key member on committees, task forces and councils.
Previously, Durkin served as associate director for research in the Medical School Office of Research, where she aided in executing the school’s research strategy, establishing practice and policy, as well as providing counsel to its reporting units. She directed daily operations for the Medical School Office of Research and worked to develop new services and initiatives to address the existing and emerging needs of the research community.
Durkin earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Northern Michigan University.
