What We Do

The University of Michigan Washington D.C. Office serves as a base to reach out to Congress and the federal government for support of the University’s teaching, research and service missions.

The UM Washington D.C. Office helps the University provide national leadership in matters affecting higher education and research and helps the University to accomplish its specific objectives in Washington.

Office staff continually monitor federal legislation involving higher education and research and work with federal officials and government agencies to provide research findings that may assist their work.

View our weekly updates of news and information from Washington here.

The Office’s approach is one of service and outreach: establishing relationships on behalf of the University based on mutual respect and shared goals. Such relationships aid in forwarding the University’s priorities and lay the groundwork for solving problems (institutional and individual) when they arise.

UM Government Relations Staff also work in Lansing and Ann Arbor. For more information, visit the website for the Office of Government Relations.
