Implementation Plan for the Revised Research Faculty Guidelines for Appointment and Promotion

The revised guidelines include refined criteria/expectations for the appointment and promotion of research faculty. These criteria will be implemented for appointments and promotions as follows:
- New Hires – May 1, 2009
- Promotions – For the FY2010 promotion cycle
The revised guidelines also include time-in-rank limits for research investigators and a mandatory review process for assistant research scientists and research assistant professors. The clocks for all existing research faculty impacted by these changes will start on September 1, 2009.
The transition plan for existing individuals in each title as of September 1, 2009 is:
Research Investigator
Current title holders will have up to 4 years to seek promotion (final decision made in fourth year)
Assistant Research Scientist
- Current title holders who have held their titles for less than 3 years will have up to 6 years for the University level review (review happens in the sixth year or sooner).
- Current title holders who have been in their title for more than three years will have up to 4 years for the University level review (review happens in the fourth year or sooner).
Research Assistant Professor
- Current title holders who have held their titles for less than 3 years will have up to 6 years for the University level review (review happens in the sixth year or sooner).
- Current title holders who have been in their title for more than three years will have up to 4 years for the University level review (review happens in the fourth year or sooner).
