Eligibility:
Staff members in OVPR or any of the units that report administratively to the Office of the Vice President for Research. Faculty members are not eligible.
Award:
Personal honorarium of $1250 and a plaque.
Selection Criteria:
Individual or team that in the previous year has risen to meet a particular challenge, in an exceptional way, that goes beyond the ordinary fulfillment of their duties. Examples would be: outstanding service related to workshops, conferences, communications products, computer programming tasks, committees, proposal development, or launching of new programs.
Nomination Guidelines:
Any member of the UM community may submit a nomination. Include in the Nomination packet:
- Nomination Questionnaire [.doc]
- A one-page describing the contributions of the individual to the unit and University supporting their nomination.
- A resume or description of the nominee’s career.
- Up to three (3) letters of support, from a wide range of constituents across campus, to demonstrate the depth and breadth of the staff member’s impact on research administration.
Submit: Submit a PDF of the nomination packet by email to the Lisa Turek, Office of the Vice President for Research, laturek@umich.edu
Deadline: Friday, February 24, 2012.
Selection: Vice President for Research based on the recommendation of the Service Awards Committee.
Announcement of Award:
The recipient(s), if any, will be announced in April 2012. Reception to honor recipient is scheduled to take place in May, 2012.
Points to consider in support of nomination:
- How the nominee contributed to the success of others in his/her unit, or in meeting a special challenge or attaining an accomplishment.
- How the research and/or research administration of the University has been enhanced by this nominee’s contributions.
- The nature of the nominee’s interactions with employees and students at the University, and groups outside the University, such as research sponsors, local organizations, and government regulators.
- Current/past committees and professional experience (within the University and in the community).
- How the nominee demonstrated personal and professional growth.
- Additional information you want the selection committee to know about the nominee.
